Cantadores

Delfina e Rosa

Women play a very important role in oral transmission in Galicia, and in maintaining the collective memory. An example of this are these two phenomenal singers, Delfina and Rosa, who, besides working in the fields, taking care of their children and feeding their families, were creators of a living folklore, and maintainers of this musical tradition in Galicia. On feast days, they used to liven up the foliadas that took place in the towns near Cerceda, where they were born, there in Coruña. They themselves invented songs, and provided valuable information about the way of singing, playing and dancing.

In this small exhibition, we can choose and admire Generosa and Calviño, two great singers, who are part of a generation that wanted to keep alive the memory of the tradition of their devotees. Spontaneously, they make the art of regueifar become a living and fertile musical genre, resulting in new invented forms, such as this challenge of couplets.

Adelaida

A song of blindness, sung by the expressive voice of Adelaida, who enraptures us with her repetition of phrases, and at the same time, spurs us to imagination, to give maximum sense to a story that evokes, through her melodic lines and words, the Galician-Portuguese lyric in the framework of the Middle Ages.
